VIDEO: Police were looking for a white pickup driving erratically lane to lane, throwing beer bottles out window, doing 100 MPH…
MARSTONS MILLS – Last evening, Massachusetts State Police were trying to catch up to a white pickup truck driving erratically lane to lane, throwing beer bottles out the window, doing 100 MPH…
As you will hear in the following video, which also contains earlier audio from the actual state police radio transmissions, the white pickup pulled off of Route 6 at Exit 5; it then began to evade one of the concerned drivers who had called police. The vehicle description was then handed off to the Barnstable Police Department.
Minutes later, a Barnstable Patrolman located the truck abandoned on the Shubael Pond boat ramp at the end of Willimantic Drive.
Police began searching for the driver and eventually located a man hiding nearby in some bushes.
Police questioned the man, but he was uncooperative. Officers did not observe him driving the vehicle, but they did notice he was highly intoxicated and placed him in protective custody while continuing to investigate.
The suspect is said to be from Toronto, Canada… and he was held in police protective custody overnight until he sobered up. The Hertz rental pickup truck was towed from the scene.
The suspect had not yet been charged with OUI at the time of this report.
HN NOTE: The following video shows Barnstable Police taking the suspect into protective custody just moments after finding the abandoned pickup truck parked on the boat ramp.
The audio is from earlier Massachusetts State Police radio transmissions. As you will hear, the driver of the truck was driving recklessly, throwing beer bottles out the window, while doing about 100 MPH, according to at least one witness…
Please excuse parts of the video. There were some unexpected technical difficulties where parts of the 1977 movie Slap Shot somehow ended up in the player. (I know! it’s very strange… and I’m not completely sure how it happened… I will tell you, however, that it frustrates me when reckless drunk drivers seemingly get away with putting innocent lives at risk …and I was perhaps a bit flustered while loading the player. I’m sorry about that, and I’ll try to be a bit more careful in the future.)

HN NOTE: All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Commonwealth of Massachusetts court of law...
