*** WATCH *** 20-YEAR-OLD WOMAN AIRLIFTED TO BOSTON AFTER CAR HITS TREE HEAD-ON IN MARSTONS MILLS
MARSTONS MILLS – [DEVELOPING] – A 20-year-old woman was badly hurt in a single vehicle crash last evening, shortly before midnight. She was the rear-seat, driver’s side passenger of a Ford Fusion sedan that went head-on with a large tree on Osterville/West Barnstable Road, near the intersection with Flint Street.
As you will see in the following HN Video, Barnstable Police patrol officers shut down the roadway as EMTs from COMM FD attended to the injured woman who had been extricated and was on the ground next to the vehicle. The young woman was driven off-Cape to meet a Medflight helicopter in Plymouth. She was then airlifted from Plymouth to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. She suffered a possible back injury and multisystem trauma. Her injuries were believed to be serious, and a Barnstable Police accident reconstruction officer was called to investigate the scene. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit also responded to assist.
A young adult male (the apparent operator of the vehicle) was asked to perform field sobriety tests. He was then detained in handcuffs as the investigation continued, and eventually transported to Cape Cod Hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
As you will also see in the following HN Video, during their investigation, officers collected potential evidence from a nearby area of brush on the side of the roadway.
It’s uncertain whether the driver has been officially charged with anything, as the investigation was still ongoing at the time of this report.
The current condition of the injured female passenger was also unknown at the time of this report.
The following HN Video highlights the crash scene moments after the arrival of first responders. [DEVELOPING]
