*** WATCH *** BARKING K9 CONVINCES AGITATED MALE TO COME OUT PEACEFULLY
BARNSTABLE – An adult male, wearing an orange construction helmet and allegedly holding a bat at one point, barricaded himself inside a shed after police responded to a call from a neighbor who reportedly felt threatened by him earlier this morning.
At around 12:30 a.m. this morning, Barnstable Police officers responded to the neighbor’s address after receiving a call about an adult male there threatening him.
Things escalated when the male, allegedly seen holding a bat at one point, barricaded himself inside a shed and apparently began throwing things around. As you will hear in the following HN Video, it sounded like the male was breaking things inside the shed, which reportedly turned out to be on his parent’s property.
Barnstable Police Patrolman Nolan O’Melia and K9 Alex arrived on scene in an effort to convince the male to come out peacefully, with his hands up. Alex’s barking apparently did the trick as the suspect was peacefully taken into custody without further incident. The male was telling officers how he had recently tried some very potent marijuana… but it’s uncertain if the potent marijuana was the cause of this morning’s outburst which disturbed neighbors. The male was placed in a Barnstable FD ambulance and transported to Cape Cod Hospital for evaluation.
The primary officer on scene requested an arrest number but it’s uncertain what the charge will end up being in this case.
The following HN Video shows a motivated police K9 assisting officers on scene in order to bring about a peaceful resolution to a volatile situation. These types of volatile outbursts, whether drug induced or because of mental health issues or both, are a regular occurrence in the Town of Barnstable. It’s a serious, ongoing issue that effects everyone in the community to some degree.
