*** WATCH *** DRIVER TO BE CHARGED WITH OUI AFTER STRIKING POLE… ALLEGEDLY WAS SEEN PASSED OUT SHORTLY PRIOR
YARMOUTH – Around 11:30 p.m. last evening, YPD patrol cars were alerted regarding a man allegedly passed out behind the wheel in the vicinity of Route 28 and Old Main Street. Moments later, the same driver of a white Jeep was reportedly operating erratically westbound on Route 28. The carload of young men who called the police – said to be visiting from out of town – continued to follow the white Jeep as it turned left onto Forest Road, about a mile away from where it had initially been observed. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the white Jeep suddenly left the roadway and struck a utility pole on Forest Road, a short distance south of Route 28.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the driver who apparently did not suffer serious injury. The man was said to be in possession of a California driver’s license. The white Jeep was said to be registered out of Pennsylvania.
The damaged Jeep, which was now missing its front right wheel assembly, was hauled from the scene on a flatbed truck. The driver was hauled from the scene in the back of a YFD ambulance… for evaluation of possible minor injuries.
The utility pole was snapped at its base and will need to be replaced.
According to police sources, the driver will be summonsed for Operating Under the Influence, along with Negligent Operation of the white Jeep.
