*** WATCH *** Police K9 bite and arrest during state police traffic stop…
YARMOUTH – [HN NOTES] – The following HN Video was the scene on Route 6 eastbound around 1:00 a.m., this morning. A state trooper was conducting a traffic stop on a black Lexus SUV. It sounded like the trooper was investigating whether the driver was sober or not, but that has not yet been officially confirmed. At one point the trooper notified her dispatch that the driver was not being cooperative, and then, shortly thereafter, that the driver was “resisting.” [Note: Because of radio interference, not all of the radio transmissions were captured on HN recorders.] State Police dispatch requested assistance from the Yarmouth Police Department. A Yarmouth Police K9 patrol unit was first on scene. Moments later, both the YPD K9 officer and trooper announced that the individual had been bitten and that he was in custody.
As you will see in the following video, HN arrived shortly after the driver was taken into custody and secured in the backseat of the trooper’s cruiser. The scene was calm and secure at that time. The demeanor of all officers on scene was calm and polite. They said hello to HN and were aware that I was objectively documenting the crime scene.
Rescue arrived and bandaged the man’s bite wound. The wound did not appear to be bleeding, at least not very much, as far as I could see. The suspect was talkative, at one point stating he had not been resisting. Officers on scene, including the trooper, appeared to calmly disagree with the man’s point of view.
The suspect’s injuries did not warrant a trip to the hospital and rescue cleared the scene.
A state police administrator was enroute to the scene to investigate the use of force. The trooper and Yarmouth police officers on scene were all wearing body cams that appeared to be activated (showing red recording lights).
The driver was eventually transported, under arrest, to the state police barracks in Yarmouth. HN has forwarded this report to the state police media office, requesting additional details. However, it should be noted, that the state police media office has been extremely busy lately, and they are not always able to immediately provide details on all arrests, especially misdemeanor arrests. In which case, HN will attempt to obtain the trooper’s report through other channels, which generally takes several days… and update these “HN notes” if necessary.
* The initial HN notes contained in the above report are based on police radio transmissions and information from police sources. All defendants are presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
