*** WATCH *** FIRE MARSHAL & POLICE INVESTIGATING AFTER SUSPICOUS FIRE DISCOVERED INSIDE YARMOUTH HOME
YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating after a suspicious fire was discovered inside an occupied home last evening, at around 10:00 p.m.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, police and firefighters rushed to an address on Old Colony Way after a caller believed that someone just set her house on fire.
The first police officers on scene discovered a locked basement door that was “warm to the touch” and reported a basement filled with smoke, according to radio transmissions. The home was eventually evacuated once police officers were on scene.
Firefighters entered a basement door to the rear of the home, eventually finding a fire inside a basement bedroom, according to radio transmissions. The fire was eventually reported to have been knocked down.
A potential suspect was reported to have allegedly just fled the area.
A fire official reserved comment while speaking with HN, as the fire scene ended up being a “police issue” that was still under investigation… and that the State Fire Marshal was said to be responding to the scene.
In a phone call to Yarmouth Police Headquarters early this morning, HN spoke with Sergeant Ryan Murphy who confirmed the fire was being investigated as suspicious and that they had a “person of interest.”
The following HN Video contains footage from the scene, along with some of the initial Yarmouth police and fire radio transmissions. The investigation is active and ongoing, and all potential “persons of interest” should be presumed innocent, unless, until, and only in the eventuality they may find themselves arrested, charged, and proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
