INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS – [HN NOTES] – It was a wild night across the Cape last evening. From rollovers, serious hit-and-run crashes, and public overdoses, each town seemed to have something going on. But for HN, the call that stuck out the most happened in the vicinity of Fresh Holes Road and Hiramar Road at around 9:55 p.m.
The call came in as two suspicious males walking through a wooded area, one wearing all black and carrying a duffle bag. Both appeared to be wearing “face masks.” As officers responded, one of the males was said to be standing in the yard of an address on Fresh Holes Road and the other was said to be standing out along the street, possibly as a “lookout.”
As you will see and hear, there was a sudden explosion of garbled radio traffic as officers reported being in a foot chase. An officer could be heard telling others to get off the radio as he repeatedly updated responding officers that the suspects were running in the direction of Bearses Way.
The neighborhood was buzzing with squad cars, including officers on foot and on bicycles, as state troopers rushed in from the highway to also assist.
Barnstable patrol officers managed to capture one of the suspects while also recovering a handgun. The second suspect managed to escape and a description of a motor vehicle was put out to surrounding towns. It was believed other firearms were still in play and officers across the Cape were urged to use caution.
Barnstable Police Detectives responded. At the time of this report – around 4 a.m. – the investigation was still very active and ongoing, with police sources reluctant to disclose too much at this time. Official details are expected to be released when appropriate…
Remarkably, it does appear the extremely quick, efficient response by Barnstable patrol officers very likely prevented a serious crime from unfolding, to say the least…
