*** WATCH *** HYANNIS SMOKE SHOP ROBBED AT GUNPOINT… THREE TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL
HYANNIS – According to a witness, he had entered the smoke shop and didn’t see anyone until he discovered three store clerks down on the floor, obviously in fear. The cash drawers were wide open… and quickly realizing what had just likely happened, he asked the clerks if he could help. Police were already on their way. And all three store clerks would eventually be transported to Cape Cod Hospital. (They had not been shot, as HN would later confirm with a BPD detective…) They were likely transported because of the extreme stress of having just been robbed at gunpoint, threatened and told to get down on the floor or else, according to one source on scene. Two women and a man were transported. One of the women needed to be removed from the store on a stretcher. The current condition of the three robbery victims was unknown at the time of this report.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, at 8:39 p.m. last evening – Monday, August 29, 2022 – Barnstable Police Department squad cars and one Barnstable County Sheriff’s unit rushed toward the Hyannis Smoke Shop located at the Hyannis Crossings Plaza at 276 Falmouth Road (Rte. 28). Officers would learn that a male dressed and covered up all in black had just escaped prior to their arrival. The male had just robbed the store and was said to be in possession of a firearm of some sort.
Two Hyannis FD Rescue ambulances responded to attend to and eventually transport the three store clerks.
As the BPD patrol division secured the scene and canvased the surrounding area, a K9 unit attempted to track or find any clues that would point toward a suspect.
A Barnstable Police detective arrived on scene and began securing video footage of the crime in progress. This is a “whodunit” caper, the lead detective indicated to HN, and the store’s surveillance footage will likely play a key part in the investigation.
The investigation is very active and ongoing, and Barnstable Police Detectives will likely be passing along additional details as the investigation unfolds…
