*** WATCH *** HYUNDAI PICKUP PLOWS INTO GRAVESTONES AFTER REPORTEDLY TAKING OFF FROM STATIES IN HYANNIS
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – The following HN Video contains state police radio transmissions from around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, when a Gray 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup truck reportedly failed to stop for troopers in the area of Main Street. This all happened in the downtown area right around bar closing and troopers decided not to engage in a pursuit.
The registration came back to a woman in Brewster. The actual driver of the vehicle was now wanted for traffic violations. Troopers noted that a male at the registered address had a suspended driver’s license, according to radio transmissions.
Troopers notified Barnstable Police who helped search the area for the wanted vehicle and its driver… to no avail.
At approximately 7:25 Wednesday morning, the suspect vehicle was located abandoned amongst damaged tombstones after it had apparently crashed through the fence surrounding the Universalist Cemetery behind the Federated Church in Hyannis.
Barnstable patrol officers called for a member of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigation Unit to take photos of damage at the cemetery, including a fence and several tombstones. The cemetery grounds were also torn up.
The pickup was eventually towed from the scene.
According to several sources, police believe the operator of the Hyundai was a juvenile. The young man is expected to be summoned to court on a number a number of motor vehicle charges.
