*** WATCH & LISTEN UP! *** WIND FARM CABLE-LAYING FEARS: BEACH GOER ELETROCUTION, CANCER, HEART ISSUES, IMPOTENCE… DEATH TO 200-YEAR-OLD TREES!
HYANNIS, Massachusetts – [HN NOTES & MULLINGS ON THE MATTER] – I hate to say it, but residents may ultimately find themselves “powerless” (no pun intended) after last evening’s “special town meeting,” where they obediently lined up like school children to await their turns. (The meeting took place in the Barnstable High School auditorium.) They came to speak their minds about massive electrical-load-bearing power lines being buried beneath the public streets and lands where they live. They expressed concerns about wind farm cable being rolled in from controversial offshore wind farm projects. Scheduled and ongoing cable-laying will continue to tear up their streets, beaches, and open spaces… and there are very serious health concerns… and these projects will essentially do nothing to improve their lives here…
… and according to town officials, there is nothing anyone can do to stop it. That may or may not be true, but if it isn’t true, or %100 accurate, would this current town administration actually fight for the citizens? (Bear in mind, the town manager is not an accountable, elected position – which it should be – so, I would say don’t hold your breath.) The only accountability in our current form of government happens if and when it suits them… and only them (this based on years of observation, of course). “Them” being the town manager and his tax-gulping minions, running the fastest growing money-making racket since the Cape’s Mooncussers, now called “Barnstable Town Government.”
Just look around town and ask, “How are these current land-pirates doing? How is the current town management doing?”
By the way, Barnstable taxpayers currently fork over about $200,000 a year to unelected Town Manager Mark Ells (who is also the de facto Chief of Police… more on that later…) Is he truly looking out for our needs? Does he have our backs? For those happy about the way things currently are, keep your eyes closed and keep paying up, suckers! Enjoy your town that has been sold out…
Anyways, the following HN Video has about 30 minutes of highlights from last evening’s “special town meeting” that lasted well over 3 hours. Many town residents took time out of their busy lives to research, attend and ask serious questions. I just hope somebody listens to the many good points made last evening. (I could only fit a few of the comments in the following video.) And I’m sorry if I’m not as optimistic about this current town administration ever listening, being accountable, and taking the correct action for others who live here.
Think about it. Why should they listen and take appropriate action under the current system of town government? They say they are powerless… but in reality, it’s the residents who are powerless because there is no direct vote which holds our “leadership” accountable.
There. is. no. oversight.
(Maybe we should think about finally changing the town’s charter?)
