*** WATCH *** OPERATING WHILE GRILLING? FLAMES FROM PICKUP LEADS TO TRAFFIC STOP, BRIEF ROAD CLOSURE
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – A man told HN he had been grilling a steak moments after firefighters finished hosing down his pickup truck that had previously been traveling along West Main Street last evening, at around 9:00 p.m.
As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, it’s a good thing a Barnstable Police patrolwoman noticed the flames and quickly stopped the pickup because aside from a grill catching fire, the truck bed also contained a gas-powered leaf blower, along with other tools.
The first police officers on scene quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire with extinguishers while other officers shut down traffic in front of Party Freeze. Onlookers enjoyed their ice cream cones while the West Main Street drama unfolded. Hyannis Firefighters arrived quickly and thoroughly hosed down the entire truck bed. Fortunately, the fire did not extend beyond the truck bed… and the owner was eventually able to drive his partially roasted vehicle away from the scene.
Nobody was badly hurt…
* HN ROADWAY SAFETY ADVISORY: Please don’t grill and drive.
