*** WATCH *** Responders Free Entrapped Driver from Rollover Crash
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – HN footage captured the intense moments right after a white pickup truck flipped onto its side in a densely populated Hyannis neighborhood Thursday evening, leaving the driver trapped inside.
At approximately 8:45 p.m., Barnstable Police officers rushed toward Sea Street following reports of a disturbance involving a possible restraining order violation. Dispatch described a male suspect fleeing the scene in what was initially reported as a white van. Officers quickly learned the restraining order had been modified, negating any violation.
Moments later, while searching for the white vehicle, radio traffic alerted units to a motor vehicle that had just “flipped” at the intersection of Sea Street and Ocean Avenue. Arriving officers discovered a white pickup truck – initially mistaken for a van – resting on its side against two large boulders. The driver, conscious and alert, and unable to exit, he was the very individual officers had just been seeking to have a word with.
Hyannis Firefighters sprang into action, using an ax to hack through the pickup’s windshield. After shattering and removing the glass, rescuers carefully extricated the driver. Complaining of leg pain, he was secured to a stretcher and transported to Cape Cod Hospital under a priority two trauma alert.
Investigators determined there was no probable cause to arrest the driver for the domestic incident. However, potential charges related to the rollover crash remain under consideration. The Barnstable Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the accident, with no additional details released at this time.
