*** WATCH *** TWO HURT AFTER VEHICLE STRIKES UTILITY POLE, CATCHES FIRE…
WEST BARNSTABLE, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – At around 2:00 a.m. this morning, Barnstable area police were busy looking for a stolen Camaro that fled Hyannis toward Rte. 6 at a high rate of speed with its lights out, when they received a call about a single vehicle crash on the Service Road, near the highway (and Rte. 149). Responding officers were expecting to possibly find the stolen Camaro but instead found a completely different vehicle that was heavily damaged and catching fire. (In the following HN Video, you will hear a sergeant telling other patrols that it wasn’t the stolen vehicle they were just looking for…) The initial Barnstable Police officers on scene moved the two injured occupants, a man and a woman, away from the burning wreckage. Officers then knocked down the bulk of the fire using fire extinguishers. West Barnstable firefighters arrived on scene and began attending to the wounded while also wetting down the vehicle. Both patients were transported to Cape Cod Hospital in separate ambulances.
The utility pole was cracked and Eversource will need to attend to it.
The Barnstable Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash. The following HN Video highlights the scene shortly after officers were able to extinguish the flames. [No further details available at the time of this report… developing…]
