*** WATCH *** WILD HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT AFTER GUN REPORTEDLY BRANDISHED IN HYANNIS… THREE IN CUSTODY… [NEW DETAILS]
UPDATE – 5/29/25 @ 12 NOON: The young 20-year-old man in the above photos (bottom right insert) was the rear passenger in the vehicle. HN spoke with him this morning and was able to confirm that he was eventually released from custody and NOT criminally charged. He professes that he did not know the driver but knew the passenger, and had gotten into the vehicle for a ride home prior to the pursuit… and that he was “thinking” that he wanted them to stop and let him out of the vehicle once the pursuit started. He also told HN that at no point did he actually verbalize that he wanted out of the vehicle…. [DEVELOPING]
Also, HN spoke with a source this morning and was able to confirm that investigators eventually found the handgun upon later returning to the scene. Also note, according to new information, the fleeing BMW with just 3 tires was believed to have reached speeds IN EXCESS of 100 MPH… [DEVELOPING]
INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, shortly after 10:00 p.m. last evening, Barnstable Police responded to a parking lot at 500 Main Street for a report that someone was brandishing a handgun that had a laser. A black BMW immediately took off at a high rate of speed when officers tried to make contact. A pursuit ensued with speeds reaching 70 miles per hour (well over twice the speed limit) in the Hyannis business district. The vehicle was reportedly being driven on the opposite side of the road and against one-way traffic at times during the pursuit. Due to reckless speeds and driving, the pursuit was temporarily terminated at that point. State police and surrounding police departments were notified regarding the urgent situation, reportedly involving someone flashing a laser-equipped handgun around other young adults.
Moments later, Barnstable Police and at least one state trooper re-engaged with the fleeing BMW in the area of Route 6A and Route 132. At this point, the speeding BMW was missing a front tire on the passenger side. The fleeing BMW began traveling south on Route 149 toward the Mid-Cape Highway. The pursuit intensified as the BMW made it onto Route 6, traveling at high rates of speed toward the Sagamore Bridge. Barnstable Police terminated the pursuit when speeds reach 100 MPH.
Minutes later, Sandwich Police reported that they were off with the BMW on Ben Abbey Road in Bourne (Sagamore). The three male occupants had already fled the scene on foot. At least two K9 units and multiple police officers, including state troopers, Barnstable Police, Sandwich Police, Bourne Police, and members of the Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit, converged on the area of Ben Abbey Road to begin looking for the suspects. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, officers suddenly warned one of the suspects, “DON’T MOVE!” before placing him in handcuffs… and the video also shows all three young men eventually being captured and place under arrest [and/or detained.] [DEVELOPING].
Police Officers then began focusing on the possibility the gun was discarded during the pursuit. Officers have not yet been able to locate the alleged firearm… but they were able to locate a bag containing a fully loaded 9mm magazine. [According to sources, the magazine may have actually been loaded with .40 caliber ammo, not 9mm… HN will update with official details as soon as they are released…] The Glock type magazine was photographed and collected as evidence. The investigation is active and ongoing… no further details were available at the time of this report.
The following HN Video begins with three [alleged] perp walks. The video also contains Barnstable Police radio transmissions. HN will provide updates to this story as they become available.
