*** WATCH *** WOMAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN HYANNIS APARTMENT SHOOTING, TWO MALES IN CUSTODY [UPDATES]

INITIAL REPORT:
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES – DEVELOPING] – At around 4:00 a.m this morning, Barnstable Police patrol officers and Hyannis Firefighters rushed to the apartments at 174 Main Street for a report that someone had been shot. As you will see in the following video, HN arrived moments after police began working the scene. Officers found a female down with a gunshot wound to her chest. Officers also learned that multiple shots had been heard by witnesses prior to their arrival, and that the suspect(s) was still inside one of the apartments, believed to still be armed. As you will see, officers immediately set up security around the patient, carrying her out of harm’s way to an awaiting Hyannis FD ambulance crew. [Note: Hyannis Firefighters had also teamed up with police to carry the patient out of harm’s way.] The female was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital where she was reported to be in critical condition, according to sources on scene. She was eventually taken to the airport and airlifted to an off-Cape trauma center.
Officers then worked on setting up a secure perimeter around the apartment complex, in order to set the stage for SWAT resources already en route to the scene. Hours into the standoff, SWAT convinced two males to exit the building with their hands in the air. Both males were taken into custody and transported to Barnstable PD Headquarters.
UPDATES FROM THE BARNSTABLE POLICE:


2 Hyannis Males Arrested For Early Morning Shooting
18-year-old Evan Araujo of Hyannis and 19-year-old Jacob Winbush of Hyannis were arrested for shooting a 28-year-old Hyannis woman on October 18, 2025. Based on the investigation following the early morning shooting both Araujo and Winbush were taken into custody by members of the Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement SWAT Team with assistance from the Barnstable Police Patrol Division and K-9 Unit. The investigation continued after the arrests as Barnstable Police Detectives, with assistance of Barnstable Patrol Officers and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigations , executed several warrants to locate and secure pertinent evidence.
Araujo and Winbush were transported to the Barnstable Police Department where they were both charged with the following:
– Assault to Murder, Armed with a Firearm
– Assault and Battery with a Firearm
– Discharging a Firearm Within 500′ of a Dwelling
– Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card
Araujo was ordered held without bail based on the charges as well as a probation violation.
Winbush was ordered held on $100,000 cash bail.
Both Araujo and Winbush are scheduled to appear in Barnstable District Court for arraignment on Monday October 20, 2025. This case will be prosecuted by the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.
At the time of this release the victim is recovering in a Boston area hospital and is expected to survive.

28 -Year-Old Hyannis Women Shot
On Saturday October 18, 2025 at approximately 4:16am the Barnstable Police Department responded to 174 Main Street, Hyannis for a shooting. Arriving Officers located a 28-year-old female with a gunshot wound to the chest and immediately rendered medical assistance. Hyannis Fire and Rescue arrived and transported the victim to Cape Cod Hospital. The victim was then med flighted to a Boston hospital for further treatment.
The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council SWAT Team assisted the Barnstable Police Patrol Division and the Barnstable Police Detective Division with two active scenes located within the 100 block of Main Street, Hyannis. As a result of the investigation, traffic was routed away from the immediate area of Main Street between Center Street and Pleasant Street. A preliminary investigation appears this was not a random act.
