HN PHOTOS: Couple began smelling smoke while driving their classic Chevy back from car show…
WEST YARMOUTH – A local couple began smelling smoke while driving their mid-1980s Chevy Caprice back from a car show at the Patriot Square Shopping Center in Dennis last evening. The young man and woman were traveling south on West Yarmouth Road when they realized it was actually their car catching fire and not someone burning plastic in the area. They quickly pulled over and safely exited shortly before their classic ride burst into flames. The first police officers on scene reported the vehicle had become fully involved. The road was completely shut down as Yarmouth Firefighters began attacking the flames. The fire was knocked down without incident and the roadway was reopened after the vehicle was towed from the scene. The male driver, a mechanic who had been restoring the classic sedan, was optimistic he possibly could salvage the engine… other than that, everything appeared to be a total loss.
There were no reported injuries…
