*** WATCH *** GREAT SAVE AT CAPE COD IRISH VILLAGE: Smokey laundry fire forced guest evacuation…
SOUTH YARMOUTH – Firefighters from Yarmouth and Dennis responded to a smell of smoke inside the Cape Cod Irish Village at 822 Rte. 28 at around 11:00 p.m. last evening. The hotel was reportedly at about one-third capacity. The first crews on scene found an active fire in the laundry room as hotel guests exited into the parking lot. The smoke was heavy on the 1st floor above the fire, eventually making its way onto the second. A fire inside an industrial laundry basket was quickly extinguished, but the big issue was the smoke condition in that part of the building. With the help of powerful fans, it took firefighters about an hour to clear out all the lingering smoke. Guests were moved to rooms on the opposite side of the building, away from the smell of smoke. The fire was possibly caused by laundry chemicals that heated up over a period of time inside the laundry basket, according Deputy Chief Jon Sawyer of the Yarmouth Fire Department.
There were no reported injuries.
