B&E suspect tried to throw police off during search… called 911… said “John Adams” had been shot somewhere across town…
Actual BPD press statement:
On Friday 2/20/15 at 0223 hours Barnstable Patrol Officers were dispatched to Friendly’s Restaurant located at 1029 Iyannough Rd Hyannis for the alarm.
Ptl Morrow arrived on scene and determined that a B&E had occurred; additional officers arrived on scene and immediately set up a perimeter awaiting a police K-9 to arrive.
Ptl Roycroft arrived on scene with his K-9 partner at which time a track was initiated. A short distance away PTL Roycroft located the suspect hiding in the bushes.
The suspect was ID as Kurry Sutton 08/25/1976 from Boston, Ma.
During the search for the suspect a 911 Emergency call was made advising that a person had been shot in the area of Pufferbellies RTE 28 Hyannis.
This call was later determined to have been made by the suspect prior to his arrest in an attempt to lure officers away from the search area.
Upon further investigation Patrol Officers were able to locate several other B&E’s in the immediate area.
Officers found a rear door to the building (955 Iyannough Rd Hyannis) had been forced opened. This door led to an apartment which was occupied by sleeping tenants, who were unaware that someone had entered their residence.
Patrol Officers also found a B&E at Sam Diego’s 950 Iyannough Rd Hyannis, Ma entry was made through a second floor office window.
Kurry Sutton was charged with the following offenses;

5) Larceny of property under $250.00

HN NOTE: Police received the call saying that someone had been shot over by Pufferbellies. The call came in from the state 911 call center. A supervisor had patrols hold firm to their established positions on the perimeter while a couple of cars were sent to check out the area near Pufferbellies just to make sure. They did not find any signs of a shooting.
One BPD Sergeant advised patrols that the call may have actually been a hoax to throw officers off during the search. It turns out he was right. Thanks to modern technologies, it didn’t take investigators long to figure out what had been going on once they learned the suspect’s cell phone number. They were then able to confirm that the call placed to 911 was from the same suspect’s phone number. Investigators were also able to track down a path of B&Es using a combination of said modern technologies and good old fashioned police work.
