Update: 3/22/14 6:30am — According to Barnstable Police Sergeant Mark Cabral, David Navarro, age 30, of Hyannis was, indeed, officially charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon “to wit” a knife… Which is a Felony… The charge was not changed to “Assault with a Dangerous Weapon” as incorrectly reported by another local news source. The victim received a minor stab wound to his right hand as pointed out in the original story…
Original story:
Hyannis – At about 12:40pm, police rushed to the area of 35 Fresh Holes Road for a report that a victim had disarmed a man who allegedly just attacked him with a knife…
The victim had a minor laceration to his right hand…
An argument over dog poop escalated and became physical, with the suspect allegedly pulling out a knife and trying to stab the victim… He actually succeeded in poking the victim in the hand, causing a relatively minor injury. It could have been much worse…
The suspect, David Navarro, had already left the scene on a small bicycle and was quickly tracked down and taken into custody in front of the Hyannis Youth Center…
… the suspect was then transported back to the scene of the crime.
Police interviewed several witnesses and considered both sides of the story…
The victim was out walking his dog when Navarro became enraged with the dog leaving poop behind… The argument then descended into an altercation and knife attack…
The victim declined rescue… but crime scene photos were taking of his wounded hand.
Navarro was transported back to Barnstable Police Headquarters where he will be charged with Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon “to wit” a knife.
