INITIAL HN REPORT:
EAST FALMOUTH – HN emergency radio traffic recorders were down at the time of the shooting, which was around 5:30 p.m. Friday. A HN reader who wished to remain anonymous sent in cellphone video which shows Falmouth Police officers with their guns drawn shortly before the shooting. Because HN needed to try to piece together archived Broadcastify audio files, the police traffic at the believed time of the shooting is missing. Broadcastify archives of Falmouth Police radio traffic between 5:13 p.m. and 5:43 p.m. (the apparent time of the shooting) have been completely removed from their server.
According to the following Falmouth Police and Falmouth Fire Department radio traffic, it appears as though Falmouth Police officers were checking on a call about a male who appeared to be “in a trance” in the area of Teaticket Highway shortly prior to the shooting. Due to breaks in recording, it’s uncertain if this was the actual gunshot victim. If you listen carefully, a caller stated the man was looking suspicious and appeared to be wearing a bulletproof vest. (The Falmouth Police radio traffic is then missing for about another 30 minutes…)
THEN at 5:36 p.m., Falmouth Fire Department suddenly announced they were responding to a party with a gunshot wound located to the rear of Westies Shoe Outlet at 486 Waquoit Highway. Police were reportedly already on scene.
Falmouth FD immediately checked on the availability of a Medflight helicopter and were told that it would be 60 to 90 minutes if requested.
Responding rescue units were advised to stage until police could secure the scene.
According to radio transmissions, police officers announced it was okay to send the FD and that they were attempting CPR.
Moments later, the first EMTs on scene announced the gunshot victim was in CODE 99 condition (cardiac arrest).
Falmouth Police Detectives and the Chief of Police apparently responded to the scene, according to radio transmissions.
State police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office (CPAC) were requested to respond to the scene.
A second Falmouth ambulance was requested to the scene for a person in “priority three” condition. A Falmouth Police Officer then announced the second ambulance would not be necessary and that she would be giving that person a ride to the “74” (which I believe may be the FPD code for hospital).
Falmouth Police Dispatch radioed a FPD detective on scene, inquiring whether “Ballistics” would be needed to also respond to the scene, in addition to state police CPAC detectives. The answer was yes.
HN NOTES: From the existing audio, it is apparent someone had a gunshot wound. That person was transported to Falmouth Hospital under a trauma alert in “priority one” condition, according to transmissions. The patient was reportedly in CODE 99 condition at some point during the call.
It remains uncertain as to what actually happened. Was this a self-inflicted gunshot wound? Was a person shot by someone else? Was this a police officer involved shooting? Without the audio and confirmed details by the authorities, it’s impossible to have any clue as to what may have happened Friday.
HN has reached out to a Falmouth Police Lieutenant in charge of providing press information and has not heard back yet. (I was told this morning by a FPD supervisor he would likely be in the office on Monday.) HN has also reached out for information from the District Attorney’s Office. HN will provide official details and updates as they become available.
The following HN Video, with reader cell phone video and broadcastify audio archives, gives us the only available insights into Friday’s shooting scene in the Town of Falmouth. [DEVELOPING]
