Basement Fire in Marstons Mills Home Swiftly Contained by Firefighters

MARSTONS MILLS, MASSACHUSETTS – Firefighters from the Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department responded to a basement fire at a residence on Cammett Road on Saturday afternoon, quickly extinguishing the blaze and preventing it from spreading further.
The incident began around 1:05 p.m. on December 20, when a passerby noticed heavy smoke emanating from multiple areas of the home at 159 Cammett Road. Barnstable Police officers arrived first and confirmed the presence of smoke, prompting the fire department to request a working fire assignment and establish an operations channel.
Additional BPD squad cars shut down Cammett Road to all traffic, providing a space for firefighting apparatus arriving on scene. Upon arrival, fire crews forced entry into the unoccupied residence and discovered an active fire in the basement, which appeared to have originated near the oil burner. The firefighters were able to rapidly knock down the flames, containing the damage to the basement and averting any extension to other parts of the structure.
No injuries were reported, as the home was empty at the time of the fire. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the fire department.
The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department expressed gratitude to the Barnstable Police Department and mutual aid partners for their support during the response. Additional details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
