HYANNIS – A woman woke up from sleeping on her living room couch and found a strange man in her kitchen last night.
Last night at about 10:35pm Police rushed to an address on Captain Ellis Lane after a woman reported an intruder in her kitchen.
The intruder had been grabbing some juice boxes before he fled out the back door after being spotted by the woman.
Police put out a description and set up a perimeter. The suspect was described as a white man in his 30s.
Patrolman Sean Roycroft and Police Dog Rocky, a Belgian Malinois, arrived and hit the ground tracking.
Rocky appeared to be onto something when suddenly he found himself the target of skunk spray. Roycroft radioed that Rocky had, indeed, been sprayed by a skunk. Rocky was no longer able to track. A Yarmouth K-9 was immediately called in to salvage the track where Rocky had left off.
[Note: Police sources report that Rocky was also sprayed by a skunk last week while tracking in the Hyannisport area. Poor Rocky and Roycroft!]
The following video shows Roycroft and Rocky returning to their cruiser. You could smell Rocky from about a block away.
Roycroft and Rocky persisted while suffering the strong odor inside the cruiser as they took the Yarmouth K-9 team back to were they had left off.
As of 2am, police sources reported they were unable to locate the Breaking and Entering suspect. Rocky was not reported injured but did need to be washed.
Both the intruder and his skunk accomplice remain at large this morning. The incident is actively being investigated by the Barnstable Police Department.
