Dedham Police Officer tied to kidnapping arrested in Hyannis…
HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – Monday morning, at about 2:23am, Barnstable Police responded to the area of 104 Tobey Way looking for a man wanted by the Norfolk Superior Court.
They were looking for Dedham Police Officer Michael Schoener at 104 Tobey Way, which was listed as his last known location. But police soon discovered there was no 104 Tobey Way… so they searched the area for his gray 2007 Ford sedan, which they eventually located down the street at number 70 Tobey Way.
According to a story by WHDH reporter Byron Barnett (and also similar reports from other major Boston news stations), Schoener was arrested last August for his alleged involvement in a kidnapping.
It is alleged Schoener supplied police gear, including his badge, to the mastermind of a kidnapping in January 2014, when a 37-year-old was reportedly kidnapped and never heard from again. James Robinson was kidnapped from his home on New Year’s Day. Investigators do not believe he is still alive…
The kidnappers allegedly used Schoener’s police gear to lure him from his home…

Schoener was arrested by Barnstable Police Officers and taken to Barnstable District Court later on Monday morning. Barnstable District Court released Schoener on his own personal recognizance, ordering him to appear in Norfolk Superior Court on Tuesday to answer to the probation warrant.
It’s uncertain why there was a probation warrant, and whether or not it had anything to due with a tracking device he was ordered to wear after he entered a not guilty plea and was bailed out this past August.
The WHDH report said Schoener was placed on leave from the Dedham Police Department.
In the Barnstable Police arrest paperwork, Michael David Schoener’s current address was listed as 70 Tobey Way in Hyannis.
HN contacted Dedham Police, but they were unable to comment further on the situation at the time of this report…
The status of the case is also unknown at this time and all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
HN contacted WHDH and will also be investigating this story further. HN will update this story with additional details as they become available.
