Elderly woman evaluated after crashing into Yarmouth Port office building… [HN VIDEO]
YARMOUTH PORT – Police and firefighters rushed to the Sunflower Market Place on Route 6A after an elderly woman suddenly gunned a Toyota Camry into an office building at about 2:20 p.m..
The female driver was evaluated in the back of a Yarmouth ambulance and eventually transported from the scene… but it’s uncertain whether she was taken to the hospital or back to her nearby home. She was sitting up and speaking with EMTs shortly after the crash… and a police cruiser followed in the direction of the ambulance to investigate further.
As you will see in the following HN Video, the building’s front doorstep was completely destroyed and a section of outer wall was bashed in. The interior of the building also showed a damage wall pushed in from the impact. The Town of Yarmouth Building Inspector arrived on scene and inspected the effected parts of the building for structural damage.
According to sources, the woman was leaving the parking area of Peterson’s Market when the vehicle suddenly sped up out of control as if someone mistook the accelerator for the brake. Signage and fencing was taken out as the wayward Toyota fortunately missed striking other vehicles as it barreled across busy Route 6A.
The Yarmouth Police Department is investigating the crash…
