Feeble Barnstable town admin powerless… businesses and working families looking elsewhere… meanwhile, hideous overdose epidemic thrives…
HN NOTES: The problems of thugs, crime, and never ending overdoses continue to fester while citizens are losing faith.
There’s obviously so much more which could be done, but our self-serving “leadership” won’t act on anything that doesn’t fit their self-serving agenda.
Want a safe and thriving environment for your business? One conducive to raising a healthy family? Think again.
Perhaps the most telling indicator of a town government not in control, is the fact Barnstable forces all local businesses to close their doors everyday between the hours of 1:00AM and 3:00AM because they are too weak to keep everyone safe!
Yes, you read that correctly, our Barnstable misleadership cannot maintain peace and order. They are failing and they still have the nerve to demand a paycheck. It’s unreal!
In what universe is this okay?
Imagine telling your boss, “Yeah, I can’t do my job between 9:00AM and 11:00AM… it’s just too damn hard… so, I propose we shut down between those hours to make things easier. You cool with that?”
NO!
What the hell is going on here? We’re paying Barnstable town government a lot of money for basically sucking and failing to do their job! Keeping its community safe and operating peacefully is basically the first major function of any government.
The bottom line is, whenever any government has to shut down commerce and enterprise for any length of time, they’re basically getting their fat saggy asses kicked!
Strong thriving towns and cities do not behave that way.
Winning communities don’t “RUN AWAY” like sniveling lard asses! They rise to the challenge and fix things for the benefit of all law abiding citizens.
So why does all this matter? And why is it crucial to understand what is going on here?
For starters, once safe neighborhoods are now seeing hard working families packing up and leaving… and that’s a huge loss for all of us.
And I believe it’s because of Barnstable government’s culture of failure. ‘We’ll just close down the town and RUN AWAY instead of stepping up and taking back our streets.’
And is there any wonder why “Success” in Hyannis has come to mean saving-up to move elsewhere…
… the sooner the better.
People are tired of poor town leadership and planning. There is an utter abandonment of basic protections for law abiding people simply wanting to work hard and live in peace here. And remember, the hard working citizens are actually the ones footing the bill for the government in the first place…
Are they getting a good return on their investment?
Being able to open a business at any hour used to be an expectation… now, you’re a pain-in-the-ass for even suggesting it… and that’s before having to sit down before one of the many overbearing town tribunals to get permission to exist in the first place.
Over-regulating and killing enterprise seems to be the Barnstable way! And talk about shooting themselves in the foot…
Are we becoming more and more like Detroit? (Geeze, I certainly hope not!)
It’s such a backwards system here in Barnstable government, we seemingly work for them, it’s not the other way around like it should be.
Are you sober enough to remember the beautiful peaceful town we once all enjoyed? Sane enough to remember when we had thriving families on the tax rolls? Want to see things improve and return to the way things once were?
Talk like that around one of our lazy town bureaucrats and they’ll yawn you out of the room… and get away with it because our town charter doesn’t favor voters. There is absolutely no accountability or oversight in our current system.
Barnstable town government wasn’t as impotent and it somewhat worked in the past because we had better quality people in office. People who really cared. But not today… (But that’s a whole ‘nuther rant).
Just take a look around any family neighborhood in HyTown and ask yourself if things are improving or getting worse.
Some are saying it’s getting worse and there are no immediate signs of improving. Does this explain why some longtime residents want to suddenly pack up and leave?
What sane person wants to return home with their kids to the sight of someone passed out or pissing on the side of the road?
What sane person wants to have a peaceful labor day family cookout suddenly disturbed as police squad cars and ambulances whiz by like something out of Starsky and Hutch?
What sane person wants to continue forking taxes over to a Barnstable town government which cannot do anything but serve itself?
What sane person wants to foot the bill for a failing town government that says it needs to close down the whole damn town for several hours a day because they are unable to do their job and keep the peace?
For chrissakes people, wake up! Our government is broken and the sad part is it doesn’t have to be. Citizens need to take back control…
I’ve watched good hard working people move away; not because they never ever liked it here, but because they’ve seen the lack-luster writing on the wall. A poor economy, crime, drugs, and an utter disregard for common sense family friendly government practices. (But the Barnstable town government did manage flex its muscle recently to ban plastic shopping bags , SMDH — sorry, digressing once again…)
And how many times have you dealt with one of the rude spoiled-ass town employees? You know the ones, you need something and they look at you like you’re bothering them…
They’re only rude for one good reason, because they don’t respect you… nor do they have to… because there is absolutely no oversight… and they don’t have to answer to anyone… (But there again, I digress…)
Longtime Barnstable natives are questioning the reasons which originally made their families settle here in the first place.
They ask, “will Hyannis ever be the logical choice for working families again?”
The stark reality is that with our current leaders and system of leadership it’s not going to happen.
Denial is a powerful thing and some can’t bring themselves to honestly say it. That things will never get better under our current unaccountable system of town government. They end up settling for what they have left, a home in a crime riddled neighborhood, with lovely memories about the way things use to be. They sit in their once peaceful yards, grimacing at all of the useless taxes they have to pay, popping open another beer, sheepishly toasting the new neighbors with the “F the police” tattoos on their neck…
…..
SUNDAY AFTERNOON — The following video shows police and Hyannis Rescue workers responding to an overdose at what some have been calling a problem property on Oak Neck Road.
The property sits smack-dab in the middle of a family neighborhood. One where people still, remarkably, get up and work hard everyday.
HN has been to the same “problem property” countless times for overdoses in recent years.
The property has also been the subject of repeated calls for police services, for complaints ranging from disturbances to drug activity. Calls for services sometimes seem to occur regularly, if not on daily basis… sometimes more than once on the very same day.
Sunday, prior to all hell breaking loose, HN happened to be out walking on Oak Neck Road speaking with families out enjoying their sunny and peaceful labor day weekend. At least 5 direct neighbors were out in their yards, having cookouts, or just sitting, enjoying children, dogs, family, and friends…
… before this.
The video shows an all too familiar scene that children and family members were once again forced to endure.
(It’s important to note the video did not capture all of the yelling and screaming, a couple of young people fleeing the scene as police arrived all at once, sirens blaring…)
The patient was given Narcan in time… and will likely survive to repeat the whole process over again sometime very soon. Screaming and hollering… and people running down the road before the cops arrive…
Imagine trying to read Green Eggs and Ham to your kids with a doped-up punk swaying out in front of your home, yelling about smacking his bitch up, like some derelict goddam fool…
… asking yourself how your hard earned goddam tax payments are panning out?
That’s life in HyTown. The home of a feeble, arrogant, and uncaring government.

P.S. – Today’s HyTown Vignette is brought to you by Barbara Streisand… [I’m reminded of this song today for several reasons, but mainly because her initials are B.S., and that’s what we’ve all been experiencing lately… pure BS! Press play.]
