UPDATE – 6/10/2015 – 4:00PM: According to Dennis Police Lieutenant Peter Benson, Arthur Drinkwater, age 29, of Blackstone MA, was arrested and charged with OUI/Liquor, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, along with a motor vehicle headlight violation.
Dennis Patrolman Kevin Conboy was on routine patrol and just finishing another traffic stop when he noticed a black pickup truck traveling on Route 134 without one headlight illuminated. Conboy investigated and eventually stopped the truck on Main Street in front of Dennis Town Hall. Benson had been listening to the scanner and also realized another agency was looking for a black pickup. Benson radioed he could have the vehicle involved in the accident on the Mid-Cape Highway. State police picked up on Benson’s traffic stop and responded to his location, confirming the truck was the suspect vehicle they were looking for.

At about 1:15AM this morning, state police received a 911 call about a hit and run accident on the Mid-Cape Highway.
A female said she was traveling east on Route 6 when a black pickup truck suddenly sideswiped her at approximately 100 MPH, somewhere in the area of Exit 6. The truck was passing her and continued speeding away east on the highway after the collision. According to sources, the female tried to catch up to the reckless driver to get his license plate number, but was unsuccessful. The victim eventually pulled off at Exit 9, where she met up with state troopers.
Meanwhile police were still searching for the black truck, believed to be long gone, possibly already approaching Orleans by this point…
An alert Dennis Patrolman had been listening to state police radio transmissions and knew about the dangerous situation out on the highway. And he knew he could be onto something when he noticed a black pickup truck traveling along quiet Main Street in his town…
The patrolman stopped the truck right in front of Dennis Town Hall, where the driver was eventually arrested after a brief investigation.
The man was said to be very intoxicated…

The exact charges are unknown at this point… It’s also still unknown whether the state police will also be bringing charges related to the accident on the highway. Several state troopers also responded to the scene of the traffic stop in front of Dennis Town Hall. According to a state police radio transmission, they believe Dennis Police did indeed stop the truck they were looking for…
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and eventually continued on to her home.
