*** WATCH *** Driver allegedly drove drunk through paving project!
HYANNIS – At about 4:00 a.m. this morning, a Barnstable Police Sergeant working a paving detail on Route 132 radioed he had just made a traffic stop on a vehicle registered out of Florida. Moments later he requested an additional on-duty patrol car to the scene.
The driver reportedly had just left his place of employment at a nearby restaurant. His license to drive was reportedly suspended. And he reportedly had a previous drunk driving charge back in Florida.
The police sergeant working the detail stopped the vehicle because it allegedly drove right through the detail he was working. It just nearly hit one of the work trucks, according to a source.
Officers were beginning to suspect the driver may have been impaired behind the wheel.
As you’ll see in the following HN Video, the driver attempted field sobriety tests and was arrested on the suspicion of Operating Under the Influence.
Back at the work detail on Route 132, near the Airport Rotary, there were no reports of any workers being hurt. There was some front end damage to the driver’s vehicle, but it’s uncertain where and how it had occurred.
* All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
