HYANNIS – Six souls out fishing for squid were very happy and relieved to make it back to the dock safe and sound after their boat began taking on water last evening. Hyannis Fire Department launched its rescue boat to intercept the sinking vessel. (Barnstable Police also responded to assist…) The Grady-White pleasure boat managed to make it back to the Lewis Bay Boat Ramp (aka Gary R. Brown Boat Ramp).
As you will see in the following video, HN was able to do a quick interview with a couple of the crew members and they were uncertain what caused the boat to take on what turned out to be a significant amount of water… so much water that it actually slowed the boat on its way in. It was scary for all involved.
The ordeal happened around 10:45 p.m. in Lewis Bay entering the Hyannis Inner Harbor last evening.
There were no reported injuries.
The squid fishermen said they were visiting Hyannis from Lowell, Massachusetts. The entire endeavor wasn’t a total loss as the crew managed to reel in a couple of 5 gallon buckets of squid – not the greatest catch, but not too bad either, considering…
