Suspect reportedly started scrapping with officers… racked up various charges, including crack possession… [VIDEO]
HYANNIS – Multiple Barnstable Police Officers responded to the area of Main Street and High School Road Saturday evening after two patrolmen announced they were off with an uncooperative suspect.
Patrolmen Joseph Green and Cory Frederickson were assigned to tandem plainclothes patrol in the Hyannis area when they made contact with an individual who at one point started scraping with them and resisted arrest, sources say.
Officers suspected the man may have tried to get away because he was in possession of illicit drugs.
HN arrived after the suspect was already secured in handcuffs. Officers were searching the ground in front of the First Baptist Church, presumably looking for discarded evidence.
Paul Courchene, age 31, currently living in Hyannis, was arrested and charged with Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Crack Cocaine (Class B Substance), and Possession of Suboxone (Class B Substance).
Courchene is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Barnstable District Court.

P.S. – Today’s HyTown Vignette is brought to you by Hyannis born Paul Pena… who once eloquently wrote, “you got to go through hell before you get to heaven,” a song verse which reminds me of just about any hardscrabble backstreet, especially one in HyTown… was it luck, or could this blind blues guitarist see into the future of each and every one of us? Pena had many experiences, positive and negative, all over this wide world. A documentary entitled “Genghis Blues” documented part of his journey. The film won the 1999 Sundance film festival audience award; it was also nominated for an Academy award in 2000. Pena died in 2005 after a lifetime of struggles with health issues. He was just 55-years-old. But judging from his lyrics, perhaps this brilliantly introspective and compassionate blind artist saw far more in his short lifetime, than many of us will ever see.

PAUL PENA
“Jet Airliner”
Can’t see forty-two, just ’bout t’go insane
I’ve been down before
Ridin’ along in this big jet plane
I’ve been thinkin’ about jumpin’ out the door
‘Cause my home land is so far away
And I feel like it’s all been done
Somebody’s tryin’ to make me stay
And I’ve got to be on the run
Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh big ol’ jet airliner
‘Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
I’ve been sitting by the fireside
Wonderin’ where my strength is goin’
Looking through the mid of life,
Tryin’ to find out which way the wind is blowin’
But my heart keeps pushing me backwards
As I jump aboard that 747
Riding high, but with a tear in my eye
You got to go through hell before you get to heaven
Woah, big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh big ol’ jet airliner
‘Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
Oh I know I will
I’m gonna leave on my own this time
Oh, yeah, yeah
Big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
Touchin’ down in New England
Feel the heat comin’ down
First thought is “Lord, I said I’d be there”
But I couldn’t seem to quite get it down
‘Cause I’m goin’ with some hesitation
I’ve got to go and make my way
But there’s so many people, Lord, to talk to
And a whole lotta debts to pay
Oh, big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh big ol’ jet airliner
‘Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
Goodbye to old friends at home
Goodbye to willing friends I’ve trusted
I’ve got to go out and make my way
I might get rich and I might get busted
But I’m going, Lord, with so many things to clean up
I’ve got to make my way clear before me
But I don’t want to get mixed up
In any of that funky shit that goin’ down before me
Oooh, big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Big ol’ jet airliner
‘Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
(‘Cause it’s California where I’ve got to stay [last time])
[… and then the Steve Miller Band rocked-it-up and molded Pena’s hit into this…. I can’t decide which one I love better… press play…]
