VIDEO: Minor cruiser accident while locating pregnant assault victim… suspect reportedly tried to jump into traffic after battering girlfriend…
HYANNIS — Police responded to the Cumberland Farms on Route 132 on Saturday evening for a man reportedly beating his pregnant girlfriend. The girlfriend was said to be about 7 months pregnant…
Police received calls at about 10:40PM, people reporting a man beating his pregnant girlfriend and then attempting to jump into traffic, trying to get hit by a car. The suspect had been released from police protective custody at Barnstable Police Headquarters a short time earlier in the evening.
While investigating the disturbance, police learned both the male and female took off in different directions. The male suspect was taken into custody a short distance from the scene on Bearses Way.
Police needed to also speak with the pregnant victim to see if she was alright… and to also gather further information for the investigation into the alleged violence. Officers learned the victim was last seen walking east on Route 132. A brief search ensued…
Moments later, there was a minor traffic accident involving a cruiser that was in the process of pulling over to speak with the victim who had just been spotted further down Route 132 across the street from Whole Foods Market.
Damage to both vehicles was minor and rescue was not called to the scene.
The female victim reluctantly spoke with officers and was eventually given a ride from the scene, possibly to CCH …
No further information was available at the time of this report.

HN NOTES: It was an especially busy and hectic shift for Barnstable Police Officers and first responders in the Mid-Cape area Saturday evening. Police had their hands full with a wide range of issues, from loose dogs to reports of violence. First responders in Dennis even had to rush to a call where a boat had crashed up onto the rocky jetty at the entrance to Sesuit Harbor. It is a miracle no one was injured…
In other news:

PHOTOS: Two Barnstable Patrolmen responded to an address on the east side of Hyannis last evening after a woman called reporting a male who wouldn’t leave and was becoming aggressive. The male was arrested and reportedly charged with offenses that involve violence toward a family member. According to radio transmissions, one of those charges included “strangulation.” The man was transported to Barnstable Police Headquarters for booking and processing. (Further details were unavailable at the time of this report.)

Since its start, tens of millions of people have seen the B-17, B-24 & P-51 display at locations everywhere. The WINGS OF FREEDOM tour is one of the most extraordinary and unique interactive traveling historical displays of its kind.
WHY: The WINGS OF FREEDOM TOUR travels the nation a flying tribute to the flight crews who flew them, the ground crews who maintained them, the workers who built them, the soldiers, sailors and airmen they helped protect; and the citizens and families that share the freedom that they helped preserve. The B-17 & B-24 were the backbone of the American effort during the war from 1942 to 1945 and were famous for their ability to sustain damage and still accomplish the mission. Despite the risks of anti-aircraft fire, attacking enemy fighters, and the harrowing environment of sub-zero temperatures, many B-17s and B-24s safely brought their crews home. The P-51 Mustang was affectionately known as the bombers “Little Friend” – saving countless crews from attacking axis fighters. After the war, many aircraft were scrapped for their raw aluminum to rebuild a nation in post-war prosperity and therefore very few were spared. The rarity of the B-17, B-24 & P-51 – and their importance to telling the story of WWII is why the Collings Foundation continues to fly and display the aircraft nationwide. At each location we encourage local veterans and their families to visit and share their experiences and stories with the public. For aviation enthusiasts, the tour provides opportunity for the museum to come to the visitor and not the other way around! Visitors can find out more by visiting our website at www.collingsfoundation.org.
