*** NEW DETAILS *** 18-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED AFTER MOTORCYCLE COMES BACK STOLEN [HN VIDEO]
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – A man accused of driving a stolen motorcycle was finally identified after arresting officers discovered a U.S. Work Permit with his picture on it, tucked inside his wallet, according to a Barnstable Police report filed in district court last week. The suspect had allegedly been giving officers the run-around with false names prior to them discovering the U.S. Work Permit.
According to the report filed by Patrolman Christopher Lobianco of the Barnstable Police Department, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at around 8:00 p.m., he and other officers attempted a traffic stop in the parking lot at the corner of Main Street and High School Road.
“On several previous occasions a few select motorcycle[s] and vehicles have caused disturbances in the parking lot by revving engines, riding on sidewalks, and running from police when traffic stops were attempted,” Patrolman Lobianco wrote.
This time police were looking to make contact with a particular operator of a black motorcycle, wearing black jeans and a black t-shirt, with a black and red helmet.
Officers reportedly located the motorcycle in question parked on the sidewalk. When officers made contact with the operator in order to discuss a license plate violation, he reportedly gave them the incorrect name of Lucas Fernandez. An officer then asked the operator to write down his name in his notebook, and the operator reportedly incorrectly wrote his name as “Kevin Silva,” with a Centerville address.
Dispatch then informed officers that a computer check came back with a “Keviny Silva,” not “Kevin Silva,” at the same Centerville address. The check also revealed that the “Keviny Silva” on file had a suspended driver’s license.
Officer Lobianco’s report continues as follows:
“Officer Cunningham performed a query of the motorcycle[‘s] registration (MA REG 1C7299) which came back to a 2002 Honda CBR600. I immediately recognized that to be an attached license plate as I recognized the motorcycle to be a Yamaha, specifically either an R1 with the fairings removed or an MT07. After further inspection of the motorcycle I was able to observe only 2 cylinders of the engine (confirming the motorcycle was an MT07). I located the manufacture vin sticker which had the vin number scratched off […] I located a stamped vin number in the frame of the motorcycle (JYARM32E7MA000675) which came back to a 2021 Yamaha MT07 that was reported stolen. I notified dispatch who confirmed the motorcycle as stolen out of Worcester […]
Officer Cunningham handcuffed the operator […] While removing his personal property a wallet containing a photo ID (US work visa) and social security card confirmed the operator’s identity as Keviny Silva […]”
Keviny Silva, 18, with an address in Centerville, was arrested and charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License, Number Plate Violation to Conceal ID, and MV Operator Refusing to Identify Self.
The stolen motorcycle was towed to Barnstable Police Headquarters for later recovery. A member of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted in gathering fingerprint evidence.
* The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
