Car reportedly on fire before finally stopping on Mid-Cape… Route 6 needed to be closed… [VIDEO]
WEST YARMOUTH – A Silver Cloud tow truck driver told HN that the Nissan Altima was already on fire when it flew past him in the left lane heading west on Route 6.
The tow truck driver then tried to catch up and get the burning vehicle to pull over.
As you’ll see in the video, the burning Nissan pulled off onto the shoulder of the fast lane just past Exit 8 before becoming fully engulfed in flames earlier this evening. The tow truck driver then positioned his rig and amber lights in order to protect the scene from oncoming traffic.
At least one of the two male passengers reportedly sustained injuries during his escape from the burning vehicle. The driver reportedly had injuries to his elbow and forearm. Both male passengers, said to be in their mid to late 30s, were in the back of an ambulance when HN had arrived.
One source told HN that the vehicle had been passing cars at a high rate of speed before becoming engulfed in flames. The vehicle was said to be sparking and the occupants reportedly told a witness they didn’t have any brakes.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating and the official cause of the fire is unknown at the time of this report.
Westbound traffic was completely shut down for a period of time.
