Marstons Mills male allegedly had crack cocaine hidden in his sock… over 28 grams seized…
HYANNIS – According to the police report, on Sunday – December 19, 2021 – Patrolman Nolan O’Melia of the Barnstable Police Department, stopped a vehicle on Route 28 near the intersection with Yarmouth road to check on the female driver. A family member had called police reporting that during a phone call she could hear a male yelling at the driver and there possibly was some type of disturbance/assault occurring inside the vehicle.
Officer O’Melia had the female driver exit the vehicle to speak with him. She told him everything was alright and the her current male passenger wasn’t the problem… that it was another male she had just dropped off that had been causing the disturbance.
During the stop, the owner of the vehicle who was not on scene, called police reporting the vehicle stolen… but after phone calls between all parties, including the female driver, the owner, and police, it turned out that everything was fine. The driver had permission to use the vehicle and a stolen vehicle report wasn’t filed after all.
The investigation into disturbance report and stolen vehicle drama still ongoing, Officer O’Melia returned to the vehicle to speak with the passenger, a Mr. Shontae Davis. Davis reportedly told Officer O’Melia that the driver was crazy and that she was just giving him a ride to a local apartment complex so he could purchase marijuana.
Patrolman O’Melia’s report continues:
“For my safety and as part of the on-going investigation, Davis was asked to step out of the vehicle for further [questioning]. As Davis stepped out of the vehicle, I immediately observed the knotted end of a corner cut [baggie] which appeared to have been partially concealed under the floor mat. Davis was pat frisked for weapons at which time a folding pocket knife was secured from his person. In addition, I felt and observed several wads of cash of various denominations on his person in various pockets. Davis was also in possession of several plastic baggies and a digital scale. Davis was handcuffed behind the back, [double locked] and escorted to Officer S. Jackson’s location…
I returned to the vehicle to further inspect the knotted baggie on the floor at which time I observed a white rock substance, suspected to be crack cocaine…”
After further investigation, Davis was transported in custody back to Barnstable Police Headquarters. In the booking area, officers also found a large plastic baggie full of suspected crack cocaine hidden inside the suspect’s sock.
Evidence reportedly seized from Davis during the booking process:
1. $1,227 in wadded up cash,
2. A total 28.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and
3. A digital scale with white powder residue on it.
Officer O’Melia ended his report with the following:
“It should be noted during the booking process, Davis [made] several statements acknowledging the approx. amount of narcotics on his person. Davis also made references to being unemployed during the current pandemic, no longer collecting from the government and working odd jobs which would not be consistent with someone in possession of a large sum of money on their person.”
Shontae P. Davis, age 34, of Marston Mills, was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine and Trafficking in 18 Grams or More of Cocaine.
At his arraignment, Davis was ordered held on $5000 cash bail.
